Navigating Difficult Job Markets

At the moment it might be harder to find a job than usual; the current economic climate, and the fact that it is approaching Christmas, can typically mean that there are fewer jobs than usual available. How do you approach finding a job in these circumstances?

  1. Don’t panic. It might feel like you have to put yourself forward for every job opportunity and find a job ASAP. While it is of course important to have a job, if you do not focus on yourself and what you want, you won’t have the time and energy to apply for the jobs that would be a better fit for you. Be selective.
  2. Cast your net wide. Talk to lots of different recruiters and see what opportunities they have available.
  3. It’s a fine balance. You should have your standards but you might also need to be a little more flexible than usual in your job search.
