Before you can begin looking for jobs and attending interviews, you’ll need to impress the recruiters who are going to find you the jobs. If you’re able to leave them with a good impression, you can save yourself a good deal of work – searching and applying for jobs can be one of the most time-consuming parts of the process. Having recruiters on board is a very valuable resource, so here are some of the ways to endear yourself to them:
- Think of the overall impression you’re giving, not just the buzz words that you think people want to hear. If a recruiter has a good feeling about you as a person, they’ll be much happier to put you forward for interviews.
- Know what you want. Make sure you have a good idea of the kinds of positions that appeal to you. The easier you are to work with, the more likely they are to want to place you.
- Be friendly and personable. If you’re easy to get along with they won’t have any concerns about recommending you to their clients.
- Sell yourself well. This is not the time to be shy or modest. Recruiters want to know what you are capable of, and confidence will give you an edge over other candidates.
- Be upfront. Don’t let recruiters talk you into positions which you don’t feel are suitable for you. They will appreciate your honesty in the long-run.
