Should You Look for a New Job?
It’s often difficult to know when it’s time to move on from your current role. There’s a lot to think about, and finding a new job can be a lengthy and stressful process. Ask yourself the following questions to help you to decide whether or not you’re at the right stage of your career to be looking for a new challenge:
- Does your current role provide good opportunities for development? If not, it might well be time to move on. Don’t allow yourself to become stuck in a rut – find a new role within a company which is more keen to help you progress.
- Does the grass seem greener on the other side? When you’ve been in the same job for a while, it’s easy to fall into this trap. Think seriously about the benefits of your current job and whether a new one would make you happier.
- Do you have the skills you need for the kind of role you’d like to go into? If not, bide your time in your current job while you developing them. There’s plenty which you can do in your spare time to get the experience you need, from voluntary work to online courses.
- How much holiday have you taken? If you’ve taken more than you’ve accrued, you won’t be paid for it when you leave. It might be worth waiting until your holiday allowance is out of the negative if you don’t want to lose out on pay.
- How long have you been in your current role? Whilst people now move jobs a lot more than they used to, you want to be able to prove that you’re capable of holding down a job. Avoid moving roles excessively or it might weaken your CV.
