What is Career Development?

Career Development is a lifelong process of managing work, learning, leisure and transportations in order to move towards a personally determined and evolved preferred future.

In educational development, career development provides an individual, often a student, and focus for selecting a carrier or subject to take on in the future.

In organizational development, the study of career development looks at how individuals manage their careers within and between organizations, and how organizations structure the career progress of their members; it can also be tied into succession planning within most of the organizations.

In personal development, career development is the development of a career – informed by: experience within a specific field of interest, success at each stage of development, education attainment commensurate with each incremental stage, communications and understanding of career development as a navigable process.
